BMW R60 Custom Parts

Of the three new /5 models that made their debut in 1969, the R60/5 was in the middle of those models’ power range with its 599cc engine. Every one of the new models was built with a revised frame and an all-alloy engine that featured the camshaft beneath and a four-speed gearbox.

An electric started was standard on the R60/5 and R75/5 and was an option on the R50/5. It was a feature that added value and ease of use to the brand. The latest /5 models were not built with frames ready for sidecar use. This saved weight and complexity, adding to the sporty nature. Additional weight saving resulted in a 463 pound light bike. The engine had an output of 40 horsepower at 6,400 rpm.

In 1972 the “toaster” fuel tanks made their debut. The last year of the /5 was 1973. The /5 models were the first series to be completely assembled at BMW’s new Berlin facility. 22,721 R60/5 were built in 5 years.
