Why is deerskin the best material for motorcycle summer gloves?
Deerskin leather is soft and supple, which makes it a favorite for clothing and shoes. Deerskin leather is also stretchable. Over time, this leather will conform to your body. Unlike leather made from cow hides, deerskin leather is breathable, which means that it is less likely to make you too warm or sweaty when you are wearing it. Leather made from deer hides is also thin. In fact, of all leathers made from game animals, deerskin leather is the thinnest.
Do not be fooled into thinking that deerskin is fragile or weak, however. Despite its soft texture and light weight, leather made from deerskin is rated as the third strongest leather available. This means that clothing and other items made from deerskin leather will be durable and last a number of years if they are cared for properly.
How to care for your deerskin gloves?
Although deerskin leather is durable, its soft and breathable nature means that it can collect dirt and oils from the skin over time. Fortunately, this leather is relatively easy to care for. Use baby powder or cornstarch to remove grease or oil. Avoid rubbing them into the leather, as this may actually work the grease or oil further in. Then, use a soft brush to remove the excess flour or powder. Use a damp cloth to clean stains or spots. Deer leather is naked, or unfinished, which makes it very soft, but also means that the leather is not naturally water or stain resistant. There are now some good products available that can be applied to this leather to provide some water and stain protection.
To ensure a proper fit: Measure your hand with a tape measure around the knuckles of your hand.
